Mary Jane Detroyer offers personal training services. My goal, as your personal trainer, is to develop an individualized fitness program according to your previous experience, special needs and fitness level. I will design your individualized fitness to work you toward your health and fitness goals while keeping you motivated. I take several health and fitness parameter measurements at the start of and throughout your program to track your progress and fine-tune your program. Communication is key during the entire process in order to create a program that challenges you at an appropriate level that you will embrace as you grow stronger and have greater endurance.

The first fitness consultation before actual training begins is
extremely important. During the initial consultation, we will discuss
your medical history, physical activity history, and current health
status. Though we’re not going to “train” during
the initial consultation, I will assess your fitness level –
cardiovascular, muscular, and flexibility. I also observe posture
and look for muscle imbalances or weakness. Our first session together
is very important because everything we discuss, including your
personal fitness goals and exercise preferences, and all the things
I observe will be incorporated to create individualized fitness
program.
Most people stick with a new exercise and fitness
program when they are provided with feedback on their progress.
To track your progress, I will measure your body composition,
which includes percent of body fat, lean mass, body cell mass, and
total body water. I’ll also measure your resting metabolic
rate, your blood pressure and your resting heart rate. I can also
measure body fat using calipers (with your approval) and circumferences. I will repeat these measurements at different intervals to track your progress. If blood sugar, A1c or cholesterol controls are goals
I will track those numbers as well. We will discuss your long-term
goals as well as determine short-term goals. Lastly, we will discuss
what I expect of you and what you can expect of me while we work
together including my billing and cancellation policies.
It is important to have a good relationship in which we feel
comfortable discussing your training and my training techniques.
Communication is the key to a successful client/personal fitness
trainer relationship. You will have plenty of time throughout the
appointment to ask any questions. The initial consultation can last
up to 3 hours.
Some clients just need a jump-start and direction for their physical training. If you have the motivation and skill to work on your own, as a personal trainer, I can provide a printed exercise program to help you achieve your fitness goals. The program can be designed to do in your home, fitness facility or gym, or on the road. During your fitness assessment I will take medical and physical histories. The program will be designed for you to achieve your goals and to simultaneously work on any weaknesses or imbalances found in the initial assessment. The fitness assessment will last about 1 ½ to 2 hours. A one hour training session is included to insure proper execution of the assigned exercises. It will be scheduled following completion of the exercise program.
How often you revamp you program depends on your goals and your budget. Prior to a revamp we will review you initial fitness assessment to update changes and your track progress. Together we will reassess your goals and make changes where necessary. A new computer generated exercise program will be created. A second one hour appointment will be scheduled for a training session to go over the new exercises.
Some people are happy to go to the gym and do
their own thing but love to go to a certified personal trainer for
guided weekly flexibility sessions. These sessions can be done on
the floor on an exercise mat, on a bed, or even a massage table
if one is accessible. A session lasts 45 minutes and consists of
range of motion exercises and different stretching techniques. Stretching
with a trainer provides a deeper, more effective stretch and stretches
can be targeted to reduce muscle soreness, stress and improve function
and performance as well as prevent injuries.
